‘Kara’, starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, has resurfaced in conversations after landing on Netflix on 28 May 2026. The crime thriller, which originally hit theatres on 30 April, drew mixed reactions then – many callers calling the screenplay slow and heavy on emotion.
Now that it’s streaming, a wave of viewers who skipped it in cinemas are posting apologies. One fan wrote, “Sorry Mr D and Vignesh Raja, I missed a solid film because of fake negative reviews and now feel guilty.” Another said the film “deserves strong word of mouth, it should have had a bigger audience.”
The movie’s interval set‑piece and the bank‑robbery sequence are getting particular shout‑outs. “What an interval setup, man!” one comment read, while another highlighted the pre‑interval robbery stretch as “the scene to watch out for.”
Not everyone is singing praises, though. A few viewers still find the pacing sluggish. “Below average watch for me. Really tired of this slow‑paced thriller genre,” one user posted. Even a critic‑type comment admitted, “The screenplay feels sluggish at times, but a few solid moments make it a decent watch overall. Can definitely give it a try on Netflix.”
‘Kara’ featured an ensemble cast – Mamitha Baiju, K. S. Ravikumar, Karunas, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Jayaram – with music by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Expectations were high; the budget was set to chase a Rs 100 crore global tally. In reality, the theatrical run closed around Rs 50 crore.
With the OTT buzz, discussions on social platforms have reignited. Meanwhile, Dhanush is reportedly moving on to a new project with director Rajkumar Periasamy, and rumours suggest Mammootty will play a key role.
Poll: Do you think the Netflix audience will finally give ‘Kara’ the appreciation it missed in theatres?
