‘Kara’, the crime thriller starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, finally landed on Netflix on 28 May 2026 after its theatrical run that began on 30 April. The digital debut has stirred a fresh wave of conversation among viewers.
During its time in theatres, the film drew a mixed response. Many went online and called the screenplay slow, the tone heavy. That chatter apparently kept a chunk of the audience away.
Now, after the Netflix launch, a number of fans are stepping forward, saying they missed out. One user wrote, “How did we fail to celebrate this film? I skipped watching it after seeing the online reviews, but from start to finish, the movie was absolutely brilliant. One of the best films of the year.”
Another fan directly addressed the makers: “Sorry Mr D and Vignesh Raja, I skipped a super solid film because of fake negative reviews and now I feel guilty. Good films deserve strong word of mouth, and Kara deserved a better audience.”
The film’s interval block and the pre‑interval bank robbery sequence are getting particular praise. Comments like “What an interval setup, man!” and “The pre‑interval bank robbery stretch is the scene to watch out for” are cropping up across social platforms.
That said, not everyone is sold. Some viewers still find the pacing sluggish. One comment read, “Below average watch for me. Really tired of this slow‑paced thriller genre.” Even among the more forgiving voices, there’s a note of reservation: “Though the screenplay feels sluggish at times, a few solid moments make it a decent watch overall. Can definitely give it a try on Netflix.”
‘Kara’ featured an ensemble cast that includes Mamitha Baiju, K. S. Ravikumar, Karunas, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Jayaram, with music by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The movie entered theatres with a hefty budget and expectations of crossing the ₹100 crore mark worldwide. Instead, it wrapped up its theatrical run with roughly ₹50 crore in collections.
In the wake of the OTT buzz, discussions about the film have resurfaced online. Meanwhile, Dhanush is reportedly busy with his next project under director Rajkumar Periasamy, which is said to feature Mammootty in an important role.
