UK police confirmed Friday that officers are reviewing video footage showing Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren being subjected to antisemitic verbal abuse during a public incident in London. The clip, which has been circulating online, allegedly captures the 79-year-old actor and her husband, filmmaker Taylor Hackford, being confronted by an unidentified individual recording them.
In the video, the man approaches Mirren and shouts, “There is Helen Mirren, the avowed Zionist. You said Israel should last forever because of the Holocaust. And she was very happy that the Palestinians’ houses were gone.” He adds, “You put the post up. You’re an evil Zionist b****,” before walking away. The exact date of the recording remains unclear, though reports suggest it may date back to November of last year.
The Metropolitan Police stated they are “making attempts to contact the victims to establish whether they would like to report the incident.” The force also noted a surge in antisemitic incidents in the UK, with over 90 hate crime arrests made since March. The Campaign Against Antisemitism denounced the incident as “appalling,” calling the perpetrator a “pro-Palestine thug.”
Mirren, known for her roles in “The Queen” and “Red,” has not publicly commented on the video. The incident comes amid heightened tensions following the Israel-Hamas conflict, which has sparked global debates and protests.
So yeah, the clip is out there. And the police are looking into it.
