A 10-digit alphanumeric identification number is issued in PAN card by the Indian Income Tax Department. PAN card can be used to get information about the financial status of any person. How to check whether PAN card is inactive or active?
- First of all go to the official e-filing website of Income Tax ( Income Tax e-filing portal ).
- Scroll down the homepage and then click on “Quick Links” or “Instant E-Services”.
- After this click on “Verify Your PAN” and proceed to enter PAN related information.
- Enter PAN number, full name, date of birth and phone number in the asked section.
- You will receive an OTP on your phone number which will verify you, enter the OTP.
- After this you will be able to know whether your PAN card is active or inactive.
- When the PAN card becomes inactive, “PAN is Deactivated” will be displayed on the screen.
What to do to activate a deactivated PAN card?
There can be many reasons behind deactivating a PAN card. If the PAN is not linked to the Aadhaar card, then in such a situation the PAN card is deactivated. Apart from this, a fine is also imposed for using more than one PAN card. More than one PAN is also blocked. A fine of up to Rs 10,000 can be imposed on these card holders.
How to activate PAN card?
If on checking you find that your PAN card is deactivated, then link it to Aadhaar to activate it. If you have already done this but still the PAN is deactivated, then it is possible that you have more than one PAN card, even if you have got a new card made after losing or stealing one, but this is called a duplicate PAN card and necessary information about it should be given to the Income Tax Department. Apart from this, you can also get the inactive PAN card activated by contacting the Income Tax Department.
