Late last night, September 15th, the Income Tax Department extended the due date for filing your ITR (ITR Filing Extension) to September 16th. Taxpayers have been given one more day’s extension. How to do ITR Filing?

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1 – First, visit the official Income Tax website.

Step 2 – Select the e-file option from the options provided on the blue bar.

Step 3 – Click on the first option, Income Tax Returns.

Step 4 – Select the Assessment Year and Mode of Filing.

Step 5 – Enter 2024-25 as the Assessment Year. Select the Online option for Mode of Filing.

Step 6 – Three different options will appear for Status: Applicable. Select any one of these: Individual, HUF, and Others.

Step 7- Next, select the ITR type. Here, you will be given options for 7 different ITR forms.

Step 8- Then, you will have to state the reason for filing the ITR.

Step 9- After this, you will have to enter the required information like personal information, total income, total deductions, and tax paid.

Step 10- Finally, you will have to e-verify it. This step is very important. You can e-verify your ITR using Aadhaar OTP, EVC, and net banking, etc.

What documents are required?

  • Form 26AS or Form 16A will be required.
  • If you pay rent, you’ll need a rent agreement to claim HRA.
  • You’ll also need to submit proof for tax deductions.
  • If you have income from abroad, you’ll need a foreign bank account statement.
  • If you’ve filed your ITR before, you’ll need proof of that.
  • You’ll also need to provide your salary slip as proof of income.
