Ladki Bahin Yojana new rule: The Maharashtra government has made a significant change to the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Some new eligibility criteria have been implemented, which could affect millions of beneficiaries. Learn about the new rules and who should pay attention.

Ladki Bahin Yojana: The Maharashtra government’s “Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana” has provided financial support to millions of women. However, the government now believes that some people are exploiting the scheme inappropriately. This is why the rules have been changed.

Now, not just the beneficiary’s KYC is also required.

According to a magazine report, previously, only the female beneficiary’s income was considered. However, the government has now clarified that married women will require e-KYC for their husbands and unmarried women will require e-KYC for their fathers. If the woman and her husband or father’s combined annual income exceeds ₹2.5 lakh, they will be excluded from the scheme.

Why was this decision taken?

The government says that many women work at home or have small jobs, making their income appear low. However, their husbands or fathers have higher incomes. In such cases, the benefits of the scheme were not reaching the truly needy.

How to complete e-KYC:

  • The government has created an official website for this purpose:
  • A form will open on the website. Enter your Aadhaar number, carefully fill in the captcha code below, and then click ‘Send OTP’.
  • An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter it in the form, then click ‘Submit’.
  • If your KYC has not been completed, the next page will open. Here, you will need to enter the Aadhaar number of your husband (if married) or father (if unmarried). Then, repeat the same OTP process.
  • Now, select your caste category and fill out a declaration stating that no one in the family holds a government job or pension. Only one married and one unmarried woman in the family are taking advantage of the scheme.
  • After filling in all the details correctly, a message will appear on the screen “Success – Your e-KYC has been completed successfully”.

Why is e-KYC so important?

The government has clarified that e-KYC is not a mere formality. Its purpose is to determine who is truly eligible for the scheme and who is not. Previously, funds were transferred solely in the woman’s name, but it was often observed that fake names were receiving benefits instead of the truly needy. Now that information about the husband or father is also being requested, it will be easier to accurately calculate the family’s total income.

Additionally, every woman will now be required to update her documents annually to ensure that the assistance reaches the correct account and no one can take advantage of it.

What direct benefits will women receive?

Women whose e-KYC is complete and who meet the scheme’s criteria will receive a monthly direct benefit of ₹1,500 directly into their bank accounts. This makes household expenses easier, and women don’t have to rely on others for their needs.
