A significant development is the recent toll reduction: the Mumbai-Nashik stretch now costs ₹440 for Light Vehicles (LVs), down from ₹526. A critical project is the Versova-Kharighar Coastal Road, spanning approximately 19 kilometers along the Konkan coast. This elevated road will decongest coastal traffic, especially in north Navi Mumbai. Mumbai Metro and MMRTS Project: Navi Mumbai’s Future

The Line 1 corridor from Vidyavihar to Airoli is 65% complete, with opening planned between mid-2024 and early 2025. The larger Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Scheme (MMRTS) Phase 1A includes the Harbour Line & Western Line upgrades and MRTS (Metro Rapid Transit System) Line 1 from Kalwa to Dahanu. This creates a robust metro network connecting suburbs to the city, with Line 2A from Kurla to Stanani set for future execution. Total Phase 1A infrastructure investment is ₹46,300 crores.
Konkan Railway’s Electrification and Capacity Boost
Konkan Railway Limited (KRL) is accelerating Phase 2 electrification and capacity enhancements. The electrification of the Dahanu-Bhiwandi-Barabnee-Mangaladevi section is complete. Their focus is now on doubling line capacity to Tamil Nadu and Sri Ganganagar, aiming to triple throughput by mid-2024. Projects include doubling track lines on Singhgad &raise stations and strengthening infrastructure for increased freight and passenger loads.
