NEW DELHI, 2 May 2026 – The excitement surrounding the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has driven fans to seek tickets aggressively. A 25‑year‑old techie from B Narayanapura fell victim to a fraudulent scheme that cost him Rs 1.46 lakh.
According to a complaint lodged with Mahadevapura Police and reported by Deccan Herald, the victim was approached on Instagram by an individual claiming to be Sumit Biswal. Biswal presented himself as a senior supervisor for the ticket counter at M Chinnaswamy Stadium and assured the techie that he could provide IPL tickets along with food coupons.
The fraudster instructed the victim to meet near gate 10 of the stadium, promising that the tickets would be handed over within minutes. He also sent an email confirmation to reinforce his credibility. Initially, the techie agreed to purchase two tickets priced at Rs 3,700 each.
Biswal then pressed for additional payments, citing refundable security deposits, extra ID cards and food coupons. Trusting the promises, the techie made several transactions, even using his mother’s bank account after exhausting his own limit, and eventually transferred a total of approximately Rs 1.46 lakh.
Meanwhile, the RCB‑CSK match itself produced a high‑scoring contest, with RCB posting a record 250/3 thanks to Tim David’s 70* off 25 balls and Rajat Patidar’s 48* off 19 balls. CSK could manage only 207 all out in 19.4 overs.
The incident highlights the rising demand for IPL tickets and the associated risk of scams, especially when official tickets are sold out.
