Nowadays, no important work can be done without an Aadhaar card. Losing it can hinder many important tasks. There’s a fear that losing your Aadhaar card could empty your bank account. But can someone really use your Aadhaar card to empty your bank account? Let’s find out.
New Delhi. Nowadays, the Aadhaar card is a crucial document for Indians. It’s used almost everywhere. From the PM Kisan Yojana to opening a bank account, it’s used everywhere. Without an Aadhaar card, many important tasks can be hampered. You can’t even get a real estate agent. Even if you want to get a passport, you need an Aadhaar card. This means that without an Aadhaar card, you could be deprived of many things.
In such a situation, many people wonder whether losing your Aadhaar card could empty your bank account? If you have such questions, today we’ll explain whether someone can empty your bank account using your Aadhaar card.
Can losing your Aadhaar card empty your bank account?
Your bank account is unlikely to be emptied simply by losing your physical Aadhaar card, because simply knowing your Aadhaar number, name, and address isn’t enough to withdraw money. Financial transactions require additional verification methods such as a PIN, an OTP sent to the registered mobile number, or biometric authentication.
However, fraudsters can use your Aadhaar details to open fake bank accounts, apply for loans, or obtain new SIM cards in your name, causing financial loss and legal complications.
Can someone hack my bank account if they know my Aadhaar number?
In response to this question, UIDAI stated, “Absolutely wrong. Just as someone can’t withdraw money from an ATM machine just by knowing your ATM card number; similarly, someone can’t hack your bank account and withdraw money just by knowing your Aadhaar number.”
If you don’t share your PIN/OTP provided by banks with anyone, your bank account is safe. Rest assured, not a single case of financial loss has been reported due to Aadhaar. Aadhaar number alone cannot be used for banking or any other services.
Does UIDAI track your Aadhaar card?
Many people wonder if UIDAI, the organization that issues Aadhaar cards, tracks your Aadhaar card. The organization wrote on its website, “Absolutely wrong.” The UIDAI database only contains the minimum information you provide at the time of enrollment or update. This includes your name, address, gender, date of birth, ten fingerprints, two iris scans, a facial photo, mobile number (optional), and email ID (optional).
You can rest assured. Remember, UIDAI does not have, and will never have, information about your bank accounts, shares, mutual funds, financial and property details, health records, family, caste, religion, education, etc. in its database.
In fact, Section 32(3) of the Aadhaar Act 2016 specifically prohibits UIDAI from controlling, collecting, storing, or maintaining any information for authentication purposes, either on its own or through any entity. Aadhaar is an identifier, not a profiling tool.
