Oil marketing companies have given a big blow to airline companies by increasing the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). ATF prices have been increased by ₹ 6,271.5/KL. The price of ATF was reduced by ₹ 2414.25/KL last month and by ₹ 3954.38/KL in May. The new rate has come into effect from today.
After this increase, the price of ATF in Delhi has now become 89,344.05/KL, in Kolkata 92,526.09/KL, in Mumbai 83,549.23/KL and in Chennai 92,705.74/KL. The cost of aviation fuel is about 40 percent of the total expenses of airlines.
The increase in ATF prices will increase the expenses of airlines. This has raised the possibility of increase in air fares. However, due to the reduction in ATF prices in the last two months, it does not seem that airlines will increase fares immediately. Globally, ATF prices are linked to crude oil prices. Because it is produced through the refining process (extraction) of crude oil.
