FASTag Annual Toll Pass: You go to get the pass and then realize that this pass is not valid here. Most importantly, this pass will not be valid on highways and expressways within the state.

FASTag Annual Toll Pass: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways recently made an important announcement. You can travel toll-free for a year by taking out a FASTag pass worth Rs 3000. However, there is a condition of only 200 passes for this. After that, you will have to take out the pass again.

You can take out as many passes as you want in a year. There is no limit to that for now. The discount on this pass will be applicable on national highways and expressways under the jurisdiction of NHAI. However, it is very important to note that many big and important expressways and highways are outside this scheme.

You go to get a pass and later you realize that this pass is not valid here. Most importantly, this pass will not be valid on highways and expressways within the state. It will only be valid on national highways under the jurisdiction of the central government. There are 87 toll plazas in Maharashtra so far. Out of them, the biggest and dream project, Samruddhi Highway, this pass will not be valid.

Not only this, the Mumbai Pune Expressway is also the most traveled. But this pass will not work here either. Apart from this, this pass will not work on Atal Setu either. Many people in Maharashtra travel daily on routes like Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg or Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway. But since these routes are run by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) or private companies on BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) basis, this new Rs 3000 FASTag pass will not work on these routes. That is, if you travel on these routes daily, you will not get any benefit from this scheme.

The same is true in many other states. For example, the Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, and Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh are under the jurisdiction of the state authority UPEIDA. The Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway in Karnataka, the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Highway in Gujarat, the East Coast Road and the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway in Tamil Nadu are also run by state agencies. Therefore, the 200 trips pass of FASTag will not be applicable on these routes either.

It should be noted that this government scheme is limited to select routes operated by NHAI. Therefore, it is essential for citizens to check whether the FASTag pass worth Rs 3,000 is applicable to their travel routes or not before buying it. Otherwise, there is a possibility of spending money on an unusable pass. Will this pass not work in Maharashtra? It is not like that. There are about 18 National Highways where this pass can work, but very little travel is done on them.
