A 16-year-old boy died after getting electrocuted by a high-voltage wire while making a reel at Nerul railway station in Navi Mumbai. The boy has been identified as Aarav Srivastava, a resident of Belapur. He had gone to the station with his friends on July 6 and was making a reel by climbing on a stationary train compartment. He suffered 60% burns and serious injuries due to the electric shock. He died after six days of treatment.

Sambhaji Brigade leader assaulted in Solapur

Some people assaulted and threw ink on Sambhaji Brigade founder Pravin Gaikwad in Akkalkot village of Solapur district on Sunday over his alleged remarks on Swami Samarth, police said. Gaikwad says he was targeted because of his ‘progressive views’ and the attack was carried out by supporters of Hindutva ideology. A viral video shows some people forcibly pulling him out of the car in the afternoon and beating him.

A police officer said, ‘When Gaikwad was sitting in his car, people associated with Shivdharma Foundation threw ink on him and tried to damage his car.’ Gaikwad had come to Akkalkot to attend a felicitation ceremony organised by an educational institution and the Maratha Samaj. Akkalkot is famous for Swami Samarth, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya.

Woman commits suicide in Navi Mumbai, case filed against live-in partner

A 44-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself on July 8 in Rabale area of Navi Mumbai. The woman was living with her 37-year-old live-in partner for three years. According to the complaint, the accused took Rs 10 lakh from the woman by winning her trust and later threatened to make her objectionable photos and videos public if she broke the relationship.

The accused beat up and mentally harassed the woman several times, due to which she committed suicide. On the complaint of the deceased’s daughter, Rabale police have registered a case against the accused under sections 108 (abetment to suicide), 77, 74, 115(2), 316(2), 351(3) and 352 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused had also threatened the victim’s daughters. Police are investigating the matter.

Shiv Sena (UBT) workers beat up autorickshaw driver for anti-Marathi remarks

A video of an autorickshaw driver being beaten up in Virar area of Palghar district of Maharashtra has gone viral on social media. It is alleged that he had spoken derogatory against the Marathi language, after which Shiv Sena (UBT) workers beat him up. Police have said that they have received this video, but no one has complained yet, so no case has been registered. A leader of the North Indian community has expressed anger over this incident. He said that efforts are being made to incite violence in the state. He has demanded the government to take strict action.

A leader of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) said that the autorickshaw driver has been taught a befitting lesson. He said that if anyone insults the Marathi language or Maharashtra, Shiv Sena will respond in its own way.

Anganwadi centers will run in Zilla Parishad schools of Maharashtra

Aanganwadi centers for children below six years of age will now be allowed to run in the vacant classrooms of Zilla Parishad schools of Maharashtra. Officials said the initiative had been under discussion for some time. An official of the Rural Development Department said that thousands of Anganwadi centres in the state operate in rented premises. Due to irregular distribution of funds, there are difficulties in managing rent, electricity, water supply and sanitation. To address these problems, it was proposed to shift these centres to schools run by the nearest Zilla Parishad.

Licence of Pune’s famous Cafe Goodluck cancelled

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has temporarily cancelled the licence of Pune’s famous eatery ‘Cafe Goodluck’. This action has been taken after a video went viral on social media, in which glass pieces were allegedly seen in a bun of this restaurant. FDA Joint Commissioner Suresh Annapure said that the restaurant was inspected after the video surfaced.

During the investigation, irregularities in dirt and cleanliness were found in the restaurant. He said that we have suspended the license of the restaurant till further orders. Notably, this alleged incident came to light when a couple claimed to have found pieces of glass in the ‘Bun Maska’ they ordered at Cafe Goodluck. The couple recorded a video of the incident and shared it on social media.
