Mumbai Bomb Blasts: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday expressed surprise at the decision of the Bombay High Court. Fadnavis had made it clear that we will challenge this decision in the Supreme Court.

The Maharashtra government has moved the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court’s decision to acquit all 12 accused in the 7/11 Mumbai bomb blast case. The Supreme Court will hear the case on July 24. The High Court on Monday acquitted all 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai suburban train serial blast case due to lack of evidence. 189 people were killed and more than 800 were injured in this blast.

Meanwhile, the state government has said that it will appeal against the bench’s decision in the Supreme Court. After this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta filed a special leave petition (SLP) against the bench’s decision. He requested urgent listing of the case before a bench of Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai, Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Justice N.V. Anjaria.

Case needs urgent hearing
Mehta said, “This is a serious matter. It needs urgent hearing.” He informed that the state government has already filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision. According to media reports, the bench informed that out of the 12 acquitted accused, 8 have already been released from jail. To this, Mehta said, “Yes, they have been released. However, the case needs urgent hearing.”

Reaction of senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam
Senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam gave a big reaction to the acquittal of the accused in the Mumbai train bomb blast. He said that if the evidence on the basis of which the Mumbai Sessions Court pronounces the sentence does not stand in the High Court, then whose fault is it? The acquittal of the accused today is serious. I am confident that the government will file an appeal in the Supreme Court.
