The welcome of monsoon has come as a disaster for Mumbai. Mumbaikars have enjoyed the first rain of monsoon. Heavy rains have created havoc in many parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra. Heavy rains have been falling in Mumbai and other areas since Sunday. However, this is just the trailer of monsoon.

Mayanagari has started panting in the trailer itself. Water has filled up everywhere in Mumbai. From roads to railway tracks, everything has been submerged. More disaster is about to rain. This is the reason why IMD i.e. Meteorological Department has issued an alert and appealed to people to be cautious.

The Regional Meteorological Center in Mumbai has predicted heavy rains in Mumbai, Konkan and Western Maharashtra on Monday. A red alert has been issued for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Raigad, while Thane and Palghar are on orange alert. A yellow alert has been issued for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune and Nashik.

Issuing an advisory, the Meteorological Department said, “It will be generally cloudy. There is a possibility of thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain at isolated places in the city and suburbs. During this time the wind speed will be 40-50 kmph. The Meteorological Department said that monsoon has knocked in some parts of Maharashtra. Monsoon has also knocked in Mumbai. In the next two days, it will spread to the entire area including Mumbai. Many areas including Konkan, Pune, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Mumbai suburbs have already received heavy rains.

Due to rain, Mumbai, Baramati, Karjat, Thane and Pune are flooded, badly affecting road and rail traffic. Local train services are delayed. Trains are running 15 minutes late on Central Railway and 10 minutes late on Western Railway. Water has also accumulated outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, disrupting bus services in South Mumbai.

Heavy rains in Karjat for the second consecutive day inundated key areas like the main market, bus stand and college square, throwing normal life out of gear. Agricultural losses have been reported, with banana, pomegranate and onion crops damaged. Tourism and allied industries – such as the Hapus mango trade and fishing – have suffered major losses in the Konkan region, already grappling with economic challenges.

Heavy rains continue in Pune, Satara, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Thane and Palghar, further affecting transport. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who represents Baramati, visited flood-affected areas early Monday and assured relief efforts. The State Disaster Management Control Room at the Mantralaya is in constant touch with district officials, issuing advisories and coordinating response measures.
