Box office mission in India becomes 'impossible' for Tom Cruise, it is difficult to earn as much as the previous MI film

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning’ was released in India on 17 May, about a week before the rest of the world. The film earned a lot at the box office in the first weekend, but the way its earnings have slowed down in the second weekend, a new threat has started looming over the Indian record of the ‘Mission Impossible’ series.

Whenever Tom Cruise, one of the biggest film stars in the world, appears on the big screen with his iconic film series ‘Mission Impossible’, the theatres are crowded. His latest film of this series ‘Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning’ i.e. ‘Mission Impossible 8’ was released worldwide last Friday.

Box office reports are telling that this film has earned a lot in the worldwide box office over the weekend. ‘Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning’ was released in India on 17th May, about a week before the rest of the world. This film earned a lot in the first weekend, but the way its earnings have slowed down in the second weekend, a new threat has started looming over the Indian record of the ‘Mission Impossible’ series. Let us tell you what is the matter…

‘Mission Impossible 8’ slows down in the second weekend

Tom Cruise’s film, which was coming after collecting more than Rs 33 crore in the first weekend, started slowing down during the working days of the week. From the first Monday itself, the India collection of ‘Mission Impossible Final Reckoning’ stopped reaching double digits. The collection falling every day went below 4 crores on Friday.

There was a jump in the film’s earnings on Saturday and the collection increased to Rs 7 crore. But now reports are saying that there was no jump in the film’s earnings on Sunday and the collection once again remained at Rs 7 crore.

The first weekend collection of ‘Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning’, which was released on Saturday, included only two days’ earnings. While the film’s two-day earnings in the first weekend were more than 33 crores, its collection in the three days of the second weekend is less than 18 crores.

Indian record of ‘Mission Impossible’ in danger
The first Mission Impossible film starring Tom Cruise was released in 1996. In India, this film collected Rs 2 crore, which was a solid collection at that time. At that time, the popularity of Hollywood films in India was very less compared to today.

Every new film in the ‘Mission Impossible’ series has earned more in India than the previous film. The last film of this film series in India was ‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning’ which was released in 2023. This film, which earned Rs 119 crore, is the highest-grossing ‘Mission Impossible’ film in India.

Obviously, the latest film was expected to earn more than the previous film. But the way Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning is performing at the box office, the journey ahead is becoming difficult for it. Tom Cruise’s film has so far collected Rs 72 crore in 9 days. This film is unlikely to reach 85 crores in the working days of this week.

It seems difficult for ‘Mission Impossible 8’ to reach 100 crores in three weeks. When Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer ‘Housefull 5’ releases on June 6, its shows will reduce even more. In such a situation, the latest ‘Mission Impossible’ film needs a big miracle to reach the previous film’s India collection of 119 crores.
