The upcoming Telugu sports action drama Peddi, headed by Ram Charan, is slated for a June 4 theatrical release. The film’s trailer is set to hit screens on May 18. Yet, fans have noticed a notable absence from the promotional circuit: Janhvi Kapoor, who plays the female lead Achiyamma.
According to a report by the Deccan Chronicle, Kapoor may not take part in the film’s promotions. The piece suggests that her role in the movie is limited. It is also hinted that the makers gave Kapoor the choice to decide whether she wanted to join the promotional activities or not.
The actress reportedly chose to stay away from promotional events because she did not want audiences to expect a bigger role in the film. Neither Kapoor nor the makers have officially confirmed these reports.
There are also mentions that Kapoor agreed to do the film because she was paid more than her usual fee for Hindi films. In the film, she appears as Achiyamma. Makers have released her look from the movie in the songs “Chikiri Chikiri” and “Rai Rai Raa Raa.”
Director Buchi Babu Sana revealed that he first pitched the role of Achiyamma to Kapoor’s sister, Khushi, but felt she was too young for the character. He discussed this with media outlet M9, saying, “I initially narrated the film to Khushi Kapoor. But once I saw her in person, I realised that she’s too young for this character. Now, imagine when I have to reject Khushi and give narration to Janhvi in the same home. I felt bad and asked Janhvi if Khushi didn’t take offence.”
Peddi is a sports action drama set in Andhra Pradesh. The story follows a villager who brings people together through sports. The cast also includes Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani in key roles.
