Janhvi Kapoor is the female lead in the upcoming Telugu sports‑action drama “Peddi”, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The film, starring Ram Charan alongside Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu and Boman Irani, is slated for a theatrical release on 4 June. The trailer is expected to drop on 18 May.
As the release approaches, confusion has risen over Janhvi Kapoor’s participation in promotional activities. A report from Deccan Chronicle suggests the actress may opt out of the promotion tour. The reason cited is a limited role; the makers allegedly offered her the choice to join or stay away. It is also reported that Kapoor decided not to attend because she didn’t want audiences to anticipate a larger part.
So far, neither Janhvi Kapoor nor the producers have released an official statement on this issue. The film’s makers have only confirmed that her character, Achiyamma, is featured in songs such as the soulful “Chikiri Chikiri” and the energetic “Rai Rai Raa Raa”. Earlier, director Buchi Babu Sana said he had first pitched the role to Janhvi’s sister Khushi Kapoor, who was deemed too young for the part.
“I initially narrated the film to Khushi. But once I saw her in person, I realised she’s too young for this character,” Sana said in an interview with M9.
“Now, imagine when I have to reject Khushi and give narration to Janhvi in the same home. I felt bad and asked Janhvi if Khushi didn’t take offence.”
“Peddi” revolves around a village dweller who brings people together through sports in Andhra Pradesh. Alongside the main cast, the film also features Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.
