Actress Abhirami is stepping into a fresh chapter of her career with the release of ‘Blast’, which hit theatres on 29 May 2026. Known for roles in ‘Virumaandi’ and ‘Maharaja’, she now surprises everyone with a dramatic physical change and an action‑heavy performance.
In an exclusive chat with Etimes, she admitted the preparation was tough, “It was tough. But the end goal was in sight, so it was worth it.” She said seeing her own transformation photos now drives her forward. Fans have already started sharing her new look online, calling it inspiring.
When asked about the space for women in cinema, Abhirami said she feels “lucky and blessed” to keep getting meaningful parts, even after decades. I see this as a positive change in cinema,” she said. She added that the old mindset is fading – “Beyond that, the stereotypes have been broken. People have started thinking differently.”
She also revealed that the whole fitness journey started because of a back injury she suffered just before the ‘Blast’ shoot. While she always valued health, the injury forced her to get serious. “Little changes helped me in a big way,” she explained, crediting a nutritionist, physiotherapist and trainer for her physical and mental turnaround.
Given that ‘Blast’ centres on a martial‑arts family, the action sequences demanded real preparation. “If we don’t train properly, the audience will immediately notice it,” she said candidly. She praised stunt master Prabhu, Arjun Sarja and the entire stunt crew for looking out for the cast. “They took great care of us. Without their cooperation, we could not have done this,” she added.
Talking about reuniting with Arjun Sarja after many years, Abhirami became visibly passionate. She recalled her early days in the industry when they first worked together, noting how the reunion added an emotional layer to the film’s shoot.
