A report has revealed that out of the 12 major banks authorized for Fastag, only one bank’s Fastag transaction was completed 100 percent on time in March 2025. Fastag holders of the rest of the banks had to face many problems.
Sometimes it happens that even after having sufficient money in the Fastag, the vehicle gets stuck at the toll plaza. The machine installed at the toll plaza scans the Fastag, but the transaction is not completed with the bank. Due to this, the vehicle gets stuck and a long jam occurs. Drivers have faced trouble due to this and many times there is a dispute with the toll workers.
Status of March 2025
The National Highway Authority (NHAI) has authorized many banks and non-banking companies (NBFCs) to issue Fastag. Data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) shows that out of the 12 major authorized banks, only one bank’s Fastag transaction was completed 100 percent on time in March 2025. Fastag holders of the rest of the banks had to face many problems. This includes not deducting the toll amount due to technical or other glitches.
HDFC’s record is good
The toll barrier does not open at the toll plaza until the toll tax of the concerned vehicle is deducted. Due to this, a long line of vehicles is formed. Hindustan’s report quoted the National Payments Corporation of India as saying that in March 2025, all the transactions of Fastag issued only from HDFC Bank were completely successful. That is, the figure was 100%. No transaction was rejected due to technical or other business reasons. In this way, the journey of those using HDFC Bank’s Fastag was more comfortable.
