Janhvi Kapoor, fresh from shooting her upcoming Telugu sports drama ‘Peddi’, spilled a quirky travel story to IANS.
She was in the United States not long ago. At the airport, the immigration officer asked, “Are you an actor?” She replied, “Yes.” Then the officer went, “Oh yes, RRR… Ram Charan… NTR.” She laughed and said, “Sure!”
According to Kapoor, the names of Ram Charan and Jr NTR have become instant reference points for Indians overseas. Even overseas officials seem to know the duo.
‘RRR’, released in 2022, was directed by S.S. Rajamouli and starred Jr NTR and Ram Charan. The film earned massive global applause and its song “Naatu Naatu” clinched the Best Original Song Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards.
‘Peddi’ marks Jana’s second foray into Telugu cinema. The film, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is set in a village and follows a “crossover athlete” who fights for the oppressed through sport. The cast includes Divyenndu, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Ravi Kishan and Boman Irani.
‘Peddi’ is slated to hit screens on June 4, with premiere shows on June 3. It also ties back to the ‘RRR’ universe because Jana’s first Telugu project was the Jr NTR starrer ‘Devara’, where she played the female lead.
So yeah, the actress noticed how a single film can turn into a cultural touchstone abroad. It’s kind of a reminder that Indian cinema’s reach keeps widening.
