The Maharashtra government has made a major announcement, providing 100 percent compensation to disaster-affected farmers in Nanded. Further compensation will be announced soon for other districts as well.

The Maharashtra government has made a major announcement for farmers in Nanded, affected by rain and flooding. According to the announcement, farmers will receive 100 percent compensation for crop losses caused by the disaster. According to an agency report, State Agriculture Minister Dattatreya Bharane said that the distribution of relief funds worth ₹553.48 crore will begin on Monday.

Nearly 800,000 farmers will benefit.

An additional amount of ₹20.81 crore has been approved for lands affected by erosion and siltation. Bharane said in a statement that lists of farmers affected by crop loss are being uploaded to a government portal through a special campaign, and the approved funds will be deposited directly into their bank accounts.

According to Bharane, Nanded is the first district where farmers whose crops were affected by heavy rains will receive 100 percent relief. According to district data, crops covering over 648,533 hectares were damaged, affecting approximately 7.74 lakh farmers.

Approximately 86 percent of the total Kharif sowing area was affected by the continuous rains, resulting in significant damage to crops such as soybean, cotton, pigeon pea, green gram, black gram, sorghum, vegetables, turmeric, and bananas.

Compensation has been fixed at Rs. 8,500 per hectare for rain-fed crops, Rs. 17,000 per hectare for irrigated crops, and Rs. 22,500 per hectare for horticultural crops. The minister said the government is working on a war footing to ensure maximum assistance reaches farmers.

Announcements for other districts to be made soon

Earlier, in the first phase, the government had approved Rs. 73.54 crore for crop damage in Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Hingoli, Solapur, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts during June and July.

Bharane said that under the second phase of relief measures for crop damage caused by heavy rains since August, compensation has been approved for Nanded and will be announced soon for other districts.
