<h2>Record‑breaking heat crowns Maharashtra on 16 April 2026</h2>
<p>On 16 April 2026, Maharashtra recorded a maximum temperature of 44.2 °C at Akola, its highest seasonal temperature to date. The India Meteorological Department noted that 25 districts, including Amravati, Nagpur, Wardha, Solapur, Malad, Dahisar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Jewar, Parbhani, Bhindara, Buldan, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Washim, and Yavatmal, registered temperatures above 40 °C.</p>
<p>In the same 24‑hour period, the lowest temperature fell to 12 °C at the wheat research centre in Nifad. Nifad, Nashik, and Dhule experienced cool mornings followed by intense summer heat in the afternoon.</p>
<h2>Heatwave spreads across Vidharbha, Marathwada and Central Maharashtra</h2>
<p>Temperatures in Akola and Amravati reached 44 °C, while Nagpur, Wardha, Solapur, and Malad recorded over 43 °C. Dhule, Jalgaon, Jewar, Parbhani, Bhindara, Buldan, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Washim, and Yavatmal saw maximums around 42 °C.</p>
<p>Bulldan experienced a spike of more than 4.5 °C above average, indicating a severe heatwave. Cyclonic winds from the Maharashtra–Karnataka border, along with a south‑northerly pressure trough from southeast Madhya Pradesh to the Mahadwar to the Mathar coast, strengthened pre‑monsoon rainfall potential across the state.</p>
<h2>Weather alerts and expected rainfall</h2>
<p>For 17 April 2026, the Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for heatwave across Konkan, Vidharbha, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra. From 18 April, pre‑monsoon rains are forecast for Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and southern districts of Marathwada. Solapur and Dahisar districts face a yellow alert for thunderstorms.</p>
<p>Yellow alerts for hot and humid weather were issued for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri. Heatwave yellow alerts cover Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Beed, Nanded, Buldan, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, and Yavatmal.</p>
<p>Akola recorded 44.2 °C, Amravati 44 °C, Nagpur 43.9 °C, Wardha 43.9 °C, Solapur 43.3 °C, and Malad 43.2 °C as the hottest locations.</p>
