Maharashtra is experiencing a severe heatwave today, with temperatures soaring to 43.8°C in Akola, 43.5°C in Wardha, and 43.2°C in Solapur—districts receiving a yellow alert from the weather department. A total of 11 districts face a severe heatwave alert, including Akola, Amravati, and Wardha, where sweltering conditions have persisted despite a brief respite from rain in recent days. The coastal regions, such as Mumbai and Thane, are experiencing drier, hotter weather, with humidity levels lower than inland areas.
The heatwave’s intensity is evident in Akola, where temperatures reached 44°C on Thursday, marking one of the state’s hottest days in April. The weather department reports that heatwaves are affecting 16 districts in total, with 15 under close monitoring. While cities like Mumbai and Pune see slightly cooler conditions due to sea breezes, districts like Solapur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar remain trapped in extreme heat.
The Health Department has advised residents to stay indoors during peak hours, emphasizing hydration and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities. This alert follows similar warnings in previous weeks, as Maharashtra continues to grapple with unseasonal warmth linked to climatic shifts.
