A shameful incident has come to light in the Mumbai local train of Maharashtra. Where between Kanjurmarg and Titwala, a 40-year-old man got into an argument with a blind woman and beat her up.

After this, the man also attacked the woman. At present, the accused has been arrested in the case. A police officer gave this information to a news agency.

Police said on Tuesday that the GRP has arrested a 40-year-old man for attacking a blind woman travelling from Kanjurmarg to Titwala. The woman was travelling in a coach reserved for differently-abled passengers. A video of the attack is also going viral on various social media platforms.

An official said that based on the complaint lodged against the man, a case of molestation, assault and intimidation has been registered at the Kalyan police station. Later, the case was transferred to the Kurla railway police station as a ‘Zero FIR’. The incident took place on Monday at around 9.30 pm in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Titwala local between Kanjurmarg and Kalwa railway stations.

A 33-year-old blind woman entered the coach reserved for differently-abled passengers and found that the seats were full. Also, the reserved seat was occupied by 40-year-old Mohammed Ismail, a resident of Mumbra. The accused was travelling with his pregnant wife and 10-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, some passengers travelling in the same coach requested Ismail to give the seat to the visually-abled woman as she was eligible for it.

However, a dispute broke out between the two. During the argument, the woman abused Ismail, following which he started beating her. Some passengers tried to intervene, but he kept beating her. After attacking the woman, Ismail got down at Mumbra railway station. After which the woman got down at Kalyan railway station and lodged a complaint against him for assault.

Based on the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered against Mohammed Ismail under relevant sections of BNS and section 92(a)(b) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act for molestation, assault and intimidation. Kalyan GRP arrested the accused on Tuesday. Kalyan GRP Senior Inspector Pandhari Kande said that we are committed to ensure that justice is delivered to the victim who endured such a heinous act.
