The Malayalam campus entertainer Athiradi starring Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph is making waves at the box office. And now there’s news about where you can watch it online.
According to Filmibeat, the digital streaming rights of Athiradi have been acquired by SonyLIV. The film is expected to premiere on the platform after its theatrical run wraps up. However, the makers haven’t officially confirmed the OTT release date yet.
The film brought together Basil Joseph, Tovino Thomas, and Vineeth Sreenivasan for what many are calling a lively campus drama. It’s got friendship, rivalry, and that youthful energy thing going for it. You know how these college-set films work.
Box office wise, Athiradi posted a strong opening. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 4.25 crore net in India on Day 2 across 1,776 shows. That’s actually a 23.4 percent decline from its Day 1 collection of Rs 5.55 crore net. Still, the film has maintained solid momentum despite the drop.
ETimes awarded the film 4 out of 5 stars. Their review mentioned that Athiradi heavily revolves around male friendships and male emotions. They noted that actresses like Zarin Shihab and Riya Shibu ended up with very little to do beyond supporting the heroes. Stronger female characters and more emotional layering could have elevated the film further, according to the review.
As for the actors, Basil Joseph was last seen in Parasakthi which got mixed reviews. Tovino Thomas recently appeared in Pallichattambi which also received mixed responses. Vineeth Sreenivaman’s previous outing was the Dileep starrer Bha.Bha.Ba.
