GST Evasion: The central government has informed the Parliament that Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion worth Rs 7.08 lakh crore has been detected in the last 5 years. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha that during this period, tax officials have registered a total of 91,370 cases.

Meanwhile, many big businessmen and companies have cheated the government in the matter of tax. This has been disclosed by the government itself in Parliament.
The central government told the Lok Sabha that GST evasion of more than Rs 7 lakh crore has been detected in the last 5 financial years. In this, Rs 1.79 lakh crore has been recovered as ITC by making fake bills. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary shared the figures related to this in the Lok Sabha.
According to the data given by the government, in the financial year 2024-25 alone, Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion of more than Rs 2.23 lakh crore has been detected by CGST field officers. These figures show the scale on which tax evasion is being carried out, but at the same time it also tells how vigilant the government is to catch it.
30056 cases of GST evasion came to light in FY 2025
The government told the Lok Sabha that 30,056 cases of GST evasion were detected in FY 2025. More than half of these or 15,283 cases were related to ITC fraud. Tax evasion of Rs 58,772 crore was done in these cases. In FY 2023-24, GST evasion of Rs 2.30 lakh crore was detected by CGST field officers. This included ITC fraud of Rs 36,374 crore. GST evasion of about Rs 1.32 lakh crore was detected in FY 2023, which included fake ITC claims of Rs 24,140 crore..
In FY22 and FY21, GST evasion stood at Rs 73,238 crore and Rs 49,384 crore, respectively. This included ITC fraud of Rs 28,022 crore and Rs 31,233 crore, respectively.
Highest GST evasion in last 5 years
In the last five years (2020-21 to 2024-25), CGST field officers caught 91,370 cases. In this, a total GST evasion of about Rs 7.08 lakh crore was detected. However, after the GST evasion was revealed, the government also recovered Rs 1.29 lakh crore. The Union Minister said that out of these 5 years, the highest GST evasion was revealed in the financial year 2024-25, where GST of Rs 2.23 lakh crore was evaded.
GST officials working on the field have revealed this theft. The government has claimed that various security features are being developed to prevent GST theft.
